Erkenntnisse

Moeve is one of the leading energy companies in Spain. It is committed to leading the energy transition by supporting the advancement of renewable sources such as hydrogen, second-generation biofuels and sustainable mobility projects in Spain and Portugal.

Its San Roque Energy Park is a hub for refining, chemical and biofuel production in southern Spain. The facility is highly water dependent and optimizing water use through circular solutions is a key goal for Moeve as well as a strategic priority for Spain, due to growing pressure on the country’s water resources.

Moeve recognized this imperative in its "Positive Motion" strategy, which ties sustainability directly to business resilience. The company selected Ecolab as its water solutions partner to help turn its ambitions into practical, measurable outcomes.

Maßnahmen

Moeve collaborated with Ecolab to complement its capabilities and leverage Ecolab’s deep expertise in water technology and digital monitoring solutions.

Together, they implemented a solution at the San Roque Energy Park that enables water reduction through a circular recycling system. The core solution integrates a membrane water system, ultrafiltration and specialized chemistry to deliver a reusable stream back into the facility's operations.

The system reduces freshwater intake and aligns with the needs of the community and ecosystem - going beyond efficiency to embody responsibility, resilience and compliance. And what was previously considered a waste product is now used in critical industrial processes.

In fact, the impact enabled the plant to recycle up to 317 million gallons (1.2 million m3) of water annually, boosting production and reducing exposure to drought-related risks.

In addition, by utilizing 3D TRASAR™ Technology, Moeve’s San Roque Energy Park is able to manage and monitor the reused water to deliver consistent performance across its operations.

Ergebnisse

These solutions have enabled Moeve to reduce freshwater extraction by 21% across its Spain locations and by 39% at San Roque Energy Park – and to do it reliably with pre-determined outcomes.

The collaboration is a powerful testament to the impact of smart water management to future-proof industrial operations in water-stressed regions, proving that competitiveness and environmental stewardship are compatible.

By combining Moeve’s vision with Ecolab’s advanced water treatment technologies, monitoring and digital expertise, the partnership is not only mitigating growing water-related risks, but also securing the water Moeve needs to produce cleaner energy solutions for the future.

† Compared to 2019

* System capacity designed for 1.2 million m3 (317 million gallons). Water savings in future years is expected to be greater than Year 1.
